"Blood, sweat, and tears ..."

There was some blood on the mats, a lot of sweat, and a few tears at Rocky Ford's Middle School Wrestling Invitational last this past Saturday, but there were no wimps, whiners, or quitters. Wrestlers converged on Jefferson School's gym from Rocky Ford, La Junta, Las Animas, Lamar, Trinidad, Springfield, Manzanola, Pitts (Pueblo), Alamosa, Crowley, Hoehne, Windsor, and Swink. According to tournament director Mike Jurney, there were 34 weight divisions with an average of six wrestlers in each division. The crowd was quite vocal as the young wrestlers demonstrated winning spirit no matter the outcome of their individual matches. Matches were going continuously on three mats throughout the day.
